Randy Paul a Taris Designer Genes

Shawn Flarida a Senor Tejano Whiz

2006 NRHA Futurity [13.12.06]

The most important reining show of the 2006 season is over - the NRHA Futurity winners are crowned.

For several days it seemed that Shawn Flarida will once again make reining's history having qualified all his three mounts to the Open final from first three places. He was on the best way to win the Futurity for the third time in a row. But Saturday, December 3rd was a lucky day for another rider: Randy Paul.

Paul showed with tremendous confidence, scoring a 227 on Taris Designer Genes. She is the first mare to win the Futurity's Open Division since 1990 when Doug Milholland won the event on Silver Anniversary (AQHA Two T Whisky Royal). In a dramatic runoff for first place in the Intermediate Open Division, Shawna Sapergia bested Matt Flarida by a half point. Shawna rode This Chics On Top, a three-year-old daughter of Smart Chic Olena. Smart Chic Olena is the sire of one of our stallions, Smart Chiconita. There was more horses by him qualified for the Futurity finals. Craig Johnson earned a 3rd place aboard Smarter Than Chics in the Int. Open final with a score of 220. In the Open division final Jordan Larson guided Wind Her Up Chic to a 7th place. There were also 3 horses by Smart Chic Olena in the Non Pro final: Kelle Smit with Smart Chic O Bar was 9th, Samantha Griffin and Kachina Oak Olena finished 12th and Lance Griffin on Smart Chicamunga was unlucky with a 0-score.

Horses by Conquistador Whiz and Topsail Whiz excelled in this year's finals. Kelle Smith topped the NRHA Non Pro finals by scoring a 221 with JD Conquista Anna (by Conquistador Whiz). Ginger Schmersal showed another mare by Conquistador Whiz - Luz Del Conquistador. But the most important information for us was the 14th place earned by Luke Gagnon aboard Bella Conquistador, a full sister of our Conquistador Dun Me (Conquistador Whiz x Hollywood Lancet)!

In the Open final Mike McEntire guided The Great Guntini (by Gunner) to a third place. Gunner is the sire of our SK Spirit Of Gunner. Clint Haverty was 6th Int. Open with Gunners Cool Whip, another horse by Gunner. Andrea Fappani aboard Great Sun Burst was fifth in Open. Great Sun Burst is by Einstein, who has sired our Miss Pinestein.

Czech reininig in US Reiner magazine [08.12.06]

The December issue of the prestigious NRHA "Reiner" magazine features a story about reining in Central and Eastern Europe. There is a mention about our last year's Celadna Ride & Slide (first ever NRHA approved show in Central Europe) show as the milestone in reining's development in this part of Europe. The article features also a portrait of Klara Salkova.

Pavel Orel

AQHA Youth World Cup in Amarillo [18.07.06]

The first ever AQHA Youth World Cup began on Friday 23rd June in Amarillo (USA). The Czech Rep. was represented by Marketa Zezulkova, Katerina Svedova, Tereza Klausova, Vasek Orlita and Pavel Orel. Klara Salkova and Karel Kubata were their coaches. We believed that their performance will be at least as good as last year in Mooslargue (France).

Each rider had to draw a horse, so that the chances are even for all the competitors. The AQHA Youth World Cup stresses on the riders' versatility. During two days the riders had to show their horses in 10 different disciplines (showmanship at halter, reining, western pleasure, western horsemanship, hunter under saddle, hunt seat equitation, western riding, trail and cutting).

The historic first ever medal for Czech Rep. was won by Pavel Orel, who excelled in reining, scoring a 74,5 under judge 1 (Todd Crawford) and a 72 under judge 2 (Casey Hinton). Those scores earned Pavel a Reserve Champion title and a silver medal. There was a total of 32 entries in reining.

Vasek Orlita did very well in western pleasure: he finished 5th with a nice and clean ride. In western riding Marketa Zezulkova was 6th and Vasek Orlita 10th. At the end of the show we gathered 30 points and finished 11th (from a total of 16 teams). The first place went to the USA, Italy was second and Great Britain third.

During the show there was several very interesting clinics conducted by well known trainers. They were very willing to share their knowledge with us.

You can find an article about the Czech team here. All the results are on the AQHA website.
